Exim Bank continues to support grassroots sports development
By Our Correspondent, Karatu.
EXIM
Bank Tanzania is keen on supporting sports development especially
athletics which in the past made Tanzania flag to fly higher among flags
of other nations in international sports arena.
As the
sixth largest bank by assets and deposits in Tanzania, Exim Bank says
that it would wish to be part of initiatives to revive the lost glory,
whereby it has started to inject its support to sports at grassroots
level to discover hidden talents and nature them.
Speaking
during the Ngorongoro Marathon tournament organized by Zara Tanzania
Adventures at the weekend in Kilimanjaro Region, Exim Bank Karatu Branch
Manager Emmanuel Mwamkinga said that supporting community initiatives
and image of the country are among the Corporate Social Responsibility
activities that are undertaken by Exim Bank Tanzania.
“The
Marathon will expose our local talents from the grassroots levels that
are supposed to be natured to participate in international competitions.
Currently there have been concerns in Tanzania why our athletes fail to
bring home medals, contrary to past years. Now this is yet another
opportunity for Athletes Tanzania (AT) to identify potential runners and
prepare them to represent well the country,” he said.
Mr
Mwamkinga mentioned that his bank, through its Karatu Branch joined
other sponsors to support the Ngorongoro Marathon tournament whose main
course was to support Government’s initiative to create awareness on the
fight against malaria, and from the road race, new athletics talents
would be spotted.
He
also said the sponsorship was one of the initiatives the bank is looking
at growing and expanding its footprints around Kilimanjaro region and
that would be an ideal opportunity to start promoting the brand.
“Exim
Bank Tanzania is proud to have sponsored and be associated with the
Karatu/Ngorongoro Marathon tournament through which we want people to
know Exim Bank better and leverage business opportunities.
“Karatu/Ngorongoro
Marathon is an event which has got potentials to promote Tanzania in
many aspects especially the great economic potential while also
providing a platform where careers for up-and-coming athletes are born,”
Mr Mwamkinga said.
He
also noted the opportunities that come along with a strong sporting
foundation such as increasing employment opportunities to be a platform
that can help to absorb talented but unemployed Tanzania youths, hence
reducing the current scorching unemployment rate in the country.
