ZANZIBAR PAYS TRIBUTE TO MANDELA

Stone Town, Zanzibar – The Jahazi Literary & Jazz Festival in collaboration with Destination Zanzibar under Grassroots Traveller will host a memorial tribute to Nelson Mandela, former president of the Republic of South Africa who sadly passed away early December.

The evening of 28^thDecember 2013, themed “Power of Education” is dedicated to celebrate the life of the legendary Nelson Mandela; a man who had inspired and touched countless number of people especially the youth, through his positive character and personal experiences.

His devotion and aspiration to nurture the youth of South Africa has sparked throughout Africa and beyond. He was a man who believed in change, not just change but positive transformation.

The Jahazi Literary & Jazz Festival believes in inspiring learning through literature and music by creating a platform in Zanzibar and East Africa in general for creative arts”, said Mr Ibrahim Dabo, a co-founder of the Jahazi Festival. Dabo also added that the aim is to bring talents and communities together in a friendly environment whereby ideas can be shared, authors and artists from all walks of life can learn from one another and produce eccentric collaborative works. “One of our core objectives is to encourage and educate the youth in nurturing their natural talents whilst surrounded by a culture that values education and peace building “ said Dabo.

The Jahazi Literary & Jazz Festival is thrilled to have the former president of Zanzibar, Hon. Dr. Amani Karume as the guest speaker for this event. Hon Dr. Amani Karume will contribute to our event in honouring the foundation and the various lessons Mandela gifted us with explained Ibrahim Dabo. As a co-founder, I am deeply grateful to have an African Presidential Lecturer, Hon. Dr Amani Karume’s contribution to the event in terms of his personal success in peace making and reconciliation in Zanzibar during his presidency.
