TANZANIAN WINS AFRICAN PLAYER OF THE YEAR BASED IN AFRICA AWARD

The Tanzania Ministry of Foreign Affairs, East Africa, Regional and International Cooperation wishes to inform the world and all football fans that Mr. Mbwana Aly Samatta, the African Player of the Year based in Africa is a citizen of Tanzania and not of Botswana or Tunisia as was reported by NBC Sports.com and several other international media. 
 

Mr. Samatta is one of the star players of the Tanzania national team (Taifa Stars) currently playing for TP Mazembe Club in the Congo DRC.

The Tanzanian icon was announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as the African Player of the Year based in Africa in an event that took place in Abuja, Nigeria on 07^th January, 2016. Mr. Samatta becomes the first player from   East Africa to win the prestigious title.

The Ministry takes this opportunity to thank Mr. Samatta for placing Tanzania on the international football stage and congratulate him for the victory well deserved.
