Modern construction technology key to industry transformation says AQSRB
By Our Correspondent, Mbeya.
Architects
and Quantity Surveyors Registration Board (AQSRB) sees the use of
modern construction technology as a sure answer to many challenges that
are currently facing Tanzania infrastructure development sector.
The
board has now embarked on a drive to encourage architects, contractors,
quantity surveyors and other stakeholders in the construction industry
to uphold the use modern technology in their work in a move aimed at
improving quality of infrastructure developed in the country.
Speaking during the 21st Continuing
Professional Development (CPD) seminar which was sponsored by Exim Bank
Tanzania and held at Mkapa Conference Centre in Mbeya region over the
weekend, AQSRB Board Chairman Dr. Arch Ambwene Mwakyusa said the board
having acknowledged the challenges that Tanzania construction industry
has been facing, which includes collapse of buildings under construction
and completed ones, it thinks that the use of modern constructions
technology will greatly control and improve the quality of work done.
Dr.
Arch Mwakyusa said that emphasis is currently made on the use of modern
technologies such as Building Information Modeling especially for
Architects and Quantity Surveyors and Green Building Concept, with a
focus to help improve the quality of buildings in the country.
“We
have vehemently addressed the significance of using building information
modeling and green building concept for both architects and quantity
surveyors because we believe through these technologies, we will be able
to improve the quality of our buildings in the country,” said Dr. Arch
Mwakyusa.
He
said that the seminar brought together more than 350 participants all
over the country and others from the neighbouring countries such as
Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda.
“With
all the participants on board, we have also managed to use this platform
well to share business ideas, experience, perspective, insight and
latest technology issues. This opportunity also helps us in developing
healthy and positive associations among the participants,” added Dr.
Arch. Mwakyusa.
On his part, Exim Bank Tanzania Mbeya Branch Manager Iddy Mwacha said the bank decided to support the AQSRB 21st Continuing
Professional Development (CPD) seminar, because it was a great platform
for the bank to build relationship particularly with stakeholders in
the construction sector for the good of the country.
“We agreed to support and of course participate as exhibitor in the AQSRB 21st Continuing
Professional Development (CPD) seminar because participants in this
seminar are the stakeholders who hold the key to transformation and
improvement of infrastructure in the country. With improved
infrastructure, even the banks will have a better platform to do their
business. Better infrastructure in a country always acts as a catalyst
to fast economic growth.
“As a
bank, we also support our customers to finance construction of their
homes or any other infrastructure, easily and without stressing
themselves to think where and how they will fund the project. Through
our mortgage finance facility, we offer different tailored solutions to
our customers. In that regard, we saw that this seminar was a better
platform to showcase our mortgage product to allow stakeholders in the
construction sector to understand it better and may advice their clients
where to run to incase they need financial support,” Mr. Mwacha added.
